Removal of tartar

Removal of tartar and bacterial layers from the gumline and periodontal pockets and provision of home care instructions.

A dental hygienist removes the hardened mass of bacteria or tartar from the tooth surface using manual instruments and/or an ultrasound device. Tartar causes gum irritation and inflammation and makes the gumline difficult to clean. You cannot remove tartar at home, it must be regularly removed by a dental hygienist.

The service process

Tartar can be removed using either manual instruments or an ultrasound device, depending on the customer’s wishes. Tartar is removed with manual instruments by scraping the surfaces of the teeth mechanically, both over and below the gums. When an ultrasound device is used, the tip of the device is moved across the surfaces of the teeth.

Combined with a spray of water, the vibration of the device removes stains and tartar from the surfaces. The gums can be numbed for the duration of the tartar removal.

The service also includes personal home care instructions, surface stain removal and, where necessary, fluoride treatment.

If the bacterial coating is extensive and there has been a long time since the last cleanup, several visits might be needed to remove the tartar as completely as possible.
